Sweep
Up the Competition with Broomball
A fun, family-friendly ice sport
perfect for high schoolers on up!
Broomball is a winter
sport similar to hockey, but played on shoes (yes, shoes!) with a broom and
ball. It’s very popular on college campuses through their intramural
programs and is often their largest sport. The beauty of broomball is
that anyone can play it since maneuvering on ice pretty much levels the playing
field. Slipping and sliding are commonplace in broomball, but just don’t
be the first one to fall.
WARNING: Broomball is an addictive
sport. Side effects include a sudden loss of balance, occasional
embarrassment, and abdominal pain from laughing hysterically.
The
MCA is introducing co-ed broomball to the area as a fun way to get out of the
house for the winter. Not only is it fun, but it’s a great team building
activity for businesses, organizations, church groups, youth groups, etc…
We’re always looking for players and teams, but if you just want to check it
out first, look for drop-in broomball sessions coming soon. Check out the YouTube video below to find out
what this sport is all about!
Interested in forming
a team? Get five to ten players to join in the fun of
the broomball league. If you don’t have
a team but would like to play, leave your name and number with the MCA and
staff will try to help you get placed with a team needing players. Helmets are required. A limited number of
brooms and helmets are available for use at the MCA.
